We enjoyed the opportunity to experience a Japanese style bedroom despite it having very solid pillows! The hotel was only a short walk through the village from the main train station and mountain railway. We really enjoyed a trip on the electric train up the gorge. We saw monkeys by the side of the track and also came across a very small snake! The weather was very wet, so we only managed to travel to the open air thermal springs by the riverside, where we then sat in the natural spring and cooled off with the cold river water. Very, very beautiful !! From the hotel, the views of the bridges from large expansive windows with thoughtfully provided large seats were lovely. Free drinks - hot and cold coffee, tea, and juices in this area were good. The staff in the hotel were extremely polite and helpful. The hotel was impeccably clean throughout. We hired a private onsen, which was a lovely experience. The food was amazing with so much choice, freshly cooked or prepared in the dining area. There was lots to choose from. For a family with 2 teenage daughters from Scotland, this was a great opportunity to see how the Japanese enjoy their leisure time and to experience Japan more fully.

Really enjoyed this onsen ryokan with an incredible buffet dinner and breakfast. It's the sort of unfussy place that attracts families. The buffet dinner was much better than I expected - it's no fancy kaiseki ryokan meal (the hotel has the feel of a nicer corporate chain), but the quality was pretty good and who can deny the pleasure of an all you can eat feast after soaking in the onsen? It was great fun. They have all the regional specialities as well as all the basics of Japanese cuisine and a pleasing dessert section. The onsen was great - outdoors you have a river view, and it's a big space so it doesn't feel crowded. The room was enormous. I'm not sure if we got upgraded, it seems like maybe not? But the pictures did not make clear how big it was - we had a futon space and an additional living room with a tea table and TV. Amazing value considering the quality of the room and onsen, and that breakfast and dinner are included. We stayed midweek at about half the price of other nearby hotels, would return.

Best hotel and facilities we had in our 5 week trip in Japan. Location on the river is stunning, with views from our room or the beautiful lobby. Our western-Japanese combo room was enormous and luxurious, with two king single beds plus 2 optional futons in the separate tatami room. Facilities are second to none, with two public indoor/outdoor onsens included in the price, and three private onsen rooms (additional fee). The massive dining room offered a huge range of western and Japanese food for breakfast and dinner, and everything was delicious. Given the facilities, friendly helpful staff and incredible location - we would definitely stay here again on returning to Japan.

We reserved a deluxe room with a river view and we were not disappointed. The room and view were awesome!! Our room was very large with a separate lounging area from the sleeping area. The couch and beds were very comfortable. We appreciated the spaciousness of the room because it added to the relaxation we wanted. The public onsen was very nice - the open air bath provided exceptional views of the river and the trains in the distance. Our buffet dinner and breakfast, although not exceptional, was good. We enjoyed our hotel and the area very much, and would stay here again.

Absolutely beautiful location - stunning at winter time with icicles everywhere. Beds comfortable. The toilet lid pops up automatically when you open the door and auto flushes as well. Private onsen can be booked and was wonderful. Rooms are large biggest of our stay in Japan. Would have loved to have spent more time here. Located about 200m from the train station but they have a shuttle to pick you up with your baggage
